Warschau, zomer 1944. Stefan zorgt voor zijn moeder en zijn jongere broertje omdat zijn vader, een officier in het Poolse leger, is omgekomen tijdens de invasie van Polen in 1939. Hij heeft zijn moeder beloofd zich niet in de strijd te mengen maar ondertussen droomt hij ervan om zijn plicht te vervullen voor zijn vaderland. Uiteindelijk sluit hij zich toch aan bij het verzet. Samen met Kama, Góral, Rogal en Beksa vormt hij onder het commando van de charismatische Kobra een van de moedigste verzetslegers tijdens de Opstand van Warschau in 1944.
